Xabi Alonso has been appointed as the new Chelsea head coach on a four-year deal with the Spaniard set to begin his role on July 1, 2026,
The Stamford bridge side made this announcement following the club’s FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City as they push for a stronger campaign next season.
The former Real Madrid manager led Bayer Leverkusen to an historic run in the 2023/24 season where they won the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history, the DFB Pokal.
“Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club,” Xavi stated on his appointment.
“From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition. We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies.
“There is great talent in the squad and huge potential at this football club and it will be my great honour to lead it. Now the focus is on hard work, building the right culture and winning trophies.”
The 2010 World Cup winner had a brief spell with Real Madrid earlier this season but didn’t go as planned. He would be hoping to turn the tides around at the London club.
