Rafael Nadal Shuts Down Rumors Of Real Madrid Presidential Bid

Retired Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal has dismissed rumors of a potential bid for Real Madrid’s presidential role.

A lifelong Real Madrid supporter and an honorary member (“socio de honor”) of the club, Nadal has long been backed by sections of the fanbase for such a prominent position, with many believing his close ties to the institution would allow him to uphold the legacy and values of the European giants.

Florentino Pérez, current Real Madrid president announced on Tuesday that the club will call for elections, confirming that he and his Board of Directors will run again to continue defending the interests of the members. The announcement was made during a press conference at Ciudad Real Madrid amid growing scrutiny following another trophyless campaign.

He established that: “If someone wants to run for election, as some people say they will, let them not hesitate—let them run. They have the opportunity. And let them say how they will finance it and not go asking banks if the president of an electricity company can guarantee the candidacy. ”

The 22-time Grand Slam winner has now clarified his position, stating that the reports are untrue

“I have read reports that link me to possible candidacies for the presidency of Real Madrid. I would like to clarify that these reports are not true.”

Meanwhile, Real Madrid under Pérez has enjoyed one of the most illustrious periods in the club’s history since his arrival, with the veteran president now seeking to extend his 26-year spell in office ahead of the next election.
