Stanley Nwabali’s Injury Raises Concern Ahead Of Crucial World Cup Qualifiers

Eric Chelle, Super Eagles head coach has been dealt a major blow with the injury to first choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.

The Chippa United goalkeeper suffered an injury on Tuesday night during a South African Premier Division match against Richards Bay.

The 29-year-old was forced off the field after just 35 minutes and had to be stretchered off, prompting immediate concern over his fitness ahead of Nigeria’s important fixtures scheduled for September.

 With camp set to open next week, Chelle would be hoping that it’s nothing serious and that he will recover in time to make the trip as they awaits confirmation on his injury from the club.

Meanwhile, Nigeria are currently sitting fourth in the standings, they will host Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday, 6th September, for their Matchday 7 clash.

They will then travel to Bloemfontein to face South Africa in a high-stakes Matchday 8 encounter on Tuesday, 9th September.
