The Federation Of International Football Associations (FIFA) have released a long list of officials for the World Cup 2026.
The tournament which is billed for North America in the summer will see seven African referees on duty at the mundial.
The list comprises one referee each from seven different African countries, with Mustapha Ghorbal of Algeria being the most experienced of the contingent having officiated in the last two World Cup tournaments.
Mustapha Ghorbal – Algeria
Amin Mohamed – Egypt
Pierre Atcho – Gabon
Jalal Jayed – Morocco
Dahane Beida – Mauritania
Tom Abongile – South Africa
Omar Artan – Somalia
Jean Jacques Ndala of Congo has however been dropped by FIFA for his involvement in the controversies that marred the 2026 AFCON final in Morocco.
There was no Nigerian official selected for the tournament. A continuing trend for the Nigerian Referees Association who have failed to make any appearance in major tournaments over the years.
