Akor Adams scored for Sevilla in their 3-2 comeback victory over Villarreal on Wednesday night to boost their survival push.
The Super Eagles forward found the net with a rocket of a shot in the 72nd minute to send Sevilla ahead for the first time in the game having gone two down.
Villarreal ascertained their dominance earlier in the game at La Ceramica just as they have done for most of the season.
The Yellow Submarines had won the most points of any La Liga side this season bar Barcelona.
Their only previous losses at home were against Real Madrid and Barcelona while drawing another one to leave them with fourteen wins from seventeen coming into the game.
Expectedly, Marcelino’s men ran rampage in the opening exchanges with two goals to rewards their dominance.
Gerard Moreno and Georges Mikautqdze both found the net in the opening twenty minutes. Both goals coming after a beautiful team move.
Sevilla then gained momentum later on in the half and bought themselves a lifeline when youngster Oso latched onto a cross field pass from Lucien Agoume, dribbled exquisitely past two defenders before burying his effort past Arnau Tenas.
Just over ten minutes later, Kike Salas was well placed to volley in the equalizer after a well planned Sevilla move.
The Andalusians went to the break level knowing that their survival hope is now well on track.
In the second half, momentum dropped a bit with Villarreal playing more conservatively while Sevilla remained determined for a third consecutive victory.
Akor Adams would score from an almost impossible scenario when he drilled a fierce shot into the Villarreal goal to send the visitors ahead and way clear of the drop.
It was an unexpected but important victory for Luis Garcia’s men who now move to tenth on the log with two games of the season remaining.
The goal is the Akor Adams’s tenth of the season for Sevilla, a considerably impressive personal feat despite Sevilla’s well documented struggles this term.
Up next for Akor Adams and Sevilla is the clash against Real Madrid.
