Kelechi Iheanacho has left Sevilla with both parties agreeing to a mutual contract termination following a torrid debut campaign where the Nigerian arrived on a free transfer from Leicester City.
The Nigerian striker has failed to live up to expectations since his transfer amidst the club’s dire need for a striker. Unlucky due to fitness issues, Iheanacho was then sent on loan to Middlesbrough for six months.
He returned and played for the club during pre-season, featuring in almost all preparatory friendlies but amidst concrete interest from Celtic, both parties have decided to part ways for good.
The club confirmed his exit via an official statement on transfer deadline day;
“Sevilla FC and Kelechi Iheanacho have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of the Nigerian striker, who was linked to the Nervion club until June 30, 2026.
“Iheanacho joined the club last summer after ending his contract with Leicester City, making eleven appearances for Sevilla FC, scoring three goals. He also made 15 appearances during his half-season loan at Middlesbrough FC, an English club for which he scored one goal and assisted twice.
“The Nervion club would like to thank Iheanacho for his work during this period and wishes him the best of luck in the future.”
He is free to join up with an club even at the close of the transfer window with interest from clubs in Turkey albeit, Celtic are reportedly leading the race for his signature.
