Fulham head coach, Marco Silva has highlighted Samuel Chukwueze’s key role in the 2-1 victory against Brighton as the London boys scooped all three points in front of their roaring Craven Cottage fans.
Fulham went into the interval behind after Yasin Ayari’s well-struck effort, despite enjoying the better of the first-half exchanges. The hosts responded strongly after the restart and drew level through Samuel Chukwueze, who kept his composure to finish from a sublime Joachim Andersen pass.
Marco Silva expressed his delight at Fulham’s late turnaround picking out the AFCON returnee decisive moment to turn the tide around, even while acknowledging that his side were not at their sharpest on the day.
The Head Coach admitted frustration at conceding against the run of play before the break, but praised the team’s response and resilience.
“The reality is that we scored a great goal for us – simple, but great. The pass from Joachim, the opposite run from Chukwu, and they know that we need it against teams that come to press so high. We need runs in behind, we need players to chase them in behind. A great moment from both, from Andersen and from Chukwu to equalize the game,” Silva explained.
“Big win for us – probably the fair result should be the draw, in my opinion. I think it’s harsh for them to lose the game the way they lost.”
Harry Wilson’s first free-kick goal in the closing minutes was the dagger to the chest for Brighton as Fulham returned to winning ways.
