Awoniyi Ends Goal Drought as Nottingham Forest Halt Brentford Home Run

Taiwo Awoniyi has scored his first Nottingham Forest goal in a year as the Reds secured a crucial win in the West London clash against Brentford, restoring five-point gap to West Ham United in the league’s bottom three.

After a slow start to the season, Nottingham Forest continue their bid for survival with a convincing 2-0 away win against Keith Andrews men all thanks to goals from Igor Jesus and Taiwo Awoniyi in either half, recording back-to-back wins against the Bees for the first time ever to end their 7-match unbeaten home run.

Brentford fashioned the first opening of the contest in the early stages, with Igor Thiago prodding wide after meeting Kevin Schade’s low cross.

It was Nottingham Forest, however, who struck first after 12 minutes. Igor Jesus showed fine control to bring down Nigerian defender Ola Aina’s delivery before volleying past Caoimhín Kelleher, sparking celebrations among the travelling supporters.

Taiwo Awoniyi doubled the advantage shortly after his introduction, racing onto Morgan Gibbs-White’s incisive pass and finishing confidently beneath the onrushing Kelleher just 11 minutes after coming off the bench.

Forest return to action on Thursday, when they face Ferencváros in their final Europa League league-phase fixture.
