
The Italian duo of Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti have advanced to the quarter finals of the ongoing Australian Open.
Both men overcame their opponents in the round 4 on Sunday to reach the last eight of the first Grand Slam of the year.
It keeps the streak of having at least, two Italians in the quarter finals of each of the last five Grand Slam tournaments.
Earlier in the day, Lorenzo Musetti got the better of Taylor Fritz in a keenly contested battle for the last eight.
The Italian defeated the American 6-2 7-5 6-4 to storm into the quarter finals where a date againt legendary Novak Djokovic awaits.
Sinner on the other hand had to battle past compatriot Luciano Darderi 6-1 6-3 7-6 to move another step closer to his title defence.
It’s is Sinner’s third consecutive AO quarter finals appearance and his ninth conservative in Grand Slam tournaments.
It’s also his fifteenth career Grand Slam quarter finals appearance and his eighteenth consecutive win in the Australian Open.
Sinner will play the winner of the round 4 tie between Casper Ruud and Ben Shelton later in the day.
