Werder Bremen head coach Horst Steffen has given his assessment of Victor Boniface performance in his first league start since joining the club on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
The Nigerian striker lasted for 85th minutes as Bremen secured a 1-0 home win against FC Union Berlin. Despite not getting his name on the scoresheet, Boniface was subbed off with a deafening applause from the home fans for his starring display.
Victor Boniface made an immediate impact after coming off the bench last week, injecting energy and creativity into the game. His presence revitalized the attack and was instrumental in Werder Bremen’s comeback during the 2–2 draw against FC Heidenheim.
He set up Romano Schmid with a perfectly timed pass from the byline, assisting the team’s second goal and underlining his growing influence within the squad.
“The game gave me the feeling he’s ready now,” explained head coach Horst Steffen. “He confirmed that impression.”
The 24-year-old himself was in the starting lineup for the first time after five substitute appearance
“I felt good; it was the first game I’ve played from the start in a long time,” the striker smiled after the match. “But the most important thing is that we won the game.”
With this performance, the Bayer 04 Leverkusen loanee has likely recommended himself for further starting appearances. At least his coach was pleased with the performance of his number 44.
“I’m very happy that he was able to help us win the game,” praised coach Steffen. “He showed how good he can be. It’s nice that he lasted so long and performed well.”
