Making his return after two months exclusion, Maduka Okoye was in action yesterday as Udinese secured a hard fought point away at Cremonese, their second consecutive draw.
Maduka Okoye recently served a two-month suspension handed down by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) for breaching betting regulations.
The ban stemmed from an investigation into unusual wagers placed on Okoye receiving a yellow card during Udinese’s 2–1 victory over Lazio on March 11, 2024 bets that reportedly generated winnings exceeding €120,000.
Although initial allegations of sporting fraud were dismissed, the Nigerian international was found guilty of violating Article 4 of the sporting code.
The 26-year old suspension which ran from August 18 to October 18, 2025 ruled him out of several early-season Serie A fixtures before his reinstatement to coach Runjaic’s squad.
His first start since August, Runjaic reiterated the club’s belief in the shot stopper post match, confirming that he remains the Black and White first choice goalkeeper.
With a play-off in sight for Super Eagles, a potential return to the national team looks very much likely as Nigeria remain in contention to book a berth for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The result takes Udinese to nine points after seven games, in 11th place.
Next up is a home fixture against Lecce on Saturday afternoon where Maduka Okoye is expected to be in goal once again.
